The Tokugawa shogunate was a military government that started in 1603-1867. Throughout two and a half centuries there has been 15 Shoguns. A Tokugawa Shogun ruled the country during the Edo Period (now known as modern day Tokyo).The first Shogun was Tokugawa Ieyasu he owned about 25% of the land in Feudal Japan the rest was owned by the Daimyos. Some of the Daimyos were very threatening towards Tokugawa Ieyasu, so he made some rules and restrictions to protect himself, these are the rules: they could not marry without permission of the Shogun, they could not build any new castles, would need permission to repair old castles from the Shogun and they had a limit to the amount of Samurais they could have. A restriction was Tokugawa Ieyasu destroyed bridges and as a result the Daimyos would have a limited bridges to travel on and were tracked wherever they went.
