In feudal Japan the Shoguns were the second highest people in the country, however the daimyos were threatening towards the Shogun. The first Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu decided to make rules to protect himself incase the Daimyo's become more powerful then him. Some of the rules are that they could not marry without the permission of a Shogun, they could not build any new castles and if they were to repair a castle the Shogun would have to grant permission, they had a limit to the amount of samurais they could have and there was also a restriction such as they had limited amounts of bridges to travel on so the Daimyo's could be tracked wherever they go. These rules protected the Shoguns from being over powered by the Daimyo's and maintain their power in Japan. This established the feudal system in Japan by keeping most of the power with the Shogun and Emperor.
